When I read the title against the image I immediately wanted the ducks' names to be 'Ruby' and 'Willow'. Because that would be very sweet and I would like that very much.

I don't know a whole lot about photography, but from what I do know (which please, let me stress, is so very little) this is a very good picture technically. In terms of the whole "rule of thirds" thing the echo or reflection of the tree, the tree, and the mountains all seem so perfectly spaces apart. I'm sure this wasn't an accident. I also like that the tree is slightly off the middle of the centre third which is also spaced similarly to the ducks in the 'first third' of the photo, going left from right. (see? I don't know what I'm talking about). Basically, this satisfies my brain because when you break it down into a grid of three by three, every third is pleasing. I know that's got something to do with photography. Or not.

And from the not technical side of things (if you can consider that strange rant 'technical') I like the way the willow dips her arm into the water. I like that you can follow the journey of the ducks. I like that I can't tell how far away that island really is nor how big the trees on it are, it's almost like a fractal. I love the ragged moutains in the background and the jagged sky reflected in the foreground. I love how cold this makes me feel. I love the grey sky's friendship with the dead branches. I love the birds in the tree. I love the life of this picture, and the death of this picture.

All in all, a stunning photo. It made me think things in my head and I like that. I understand if you don't let this critique go through, it's a bit strange and rambly and whatnot.

A favourite.
